About Us

Somerset Christian School is situated on 76 acres of land on the outskirts of Somerset, KY.  The area is economically diverse as is the school population.  All students receive some tuition assistance with approximately 20% receiving full tuition, academic, needs-based scholarships.  The Lake Cumberland recreational area surrounds the community and supports many of the jobs in the area.  The school population is 1% Black, 2% Hispanic, and 97% White.

The school was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2002 and classes began in 2004.  A new 100,000 square foot modern facility was opened for the 2005-2006 School Year.  The building houses 375 students from Preschool age through grade 12.  There are currently 95 students enrolled in grades 9-12.  The school is accredited through the International Christian Accreditation Association and also through AdvancEd of The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS-CASI).

The high school operates on a 7-period class schedule.  All students are enrolled in a Precollege Curriculum.  4 credits of Bible, Math, Science, Social Studies, and English are required along with 2 credits of Spanish. Physical Education, Health, Arts & Humanities, and at least 2 elective classes are also required.  Advanced Placement classes are offered in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, US History, and World History.  A.P. classes are graded on a weighted scale (A=5points).  All other classes are graded on a 10-point scale (90-100=A, 80-89=B, etc.).  We also offer dual credit classes through 4 colleges including both on-site and on-line classes.

The Class of 2016 graduated 23 Seniors including 3 foreign exchange students. 20 graduates enrolled in 4-year colleges, including one who was admitted to the United States Naval Academy, one joined the Navy (Nuclear Engineering), and one joined the Air Force.  Other class members are attending Villanova University, Bellarmine University, Hillsdale College, and the Honors College at Western Kentucky University.  7 members of the class had 4.0 GPA’s or higher.  6 students had Composite ACT Scores of 30 or higher.  75% of our students who took the A.P. Exams scored 3 or better.  The foreign exchange students returned to their home countries to continue their educational experiences there.

For the 2014-2015 School Year, 2 students from the Junior Class were selected as Governor’s Scholars.  Our 4 high school grades averaged 84.3% on the TERRA NOVA 3 end of year assessment.  We have had 2 students selected from state-wide competition to attend the Carol M. Gatton Math & Science Academy at Western Kentucky University, currently have 9 students enrolled in the Western Kentucky University Honors College, and one student graduated in December, 2016 from the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland.  Our school received the EF Global Education Excellence Award for the 2010-2011 School Year. SCS was selected by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority as the Kentucky 2015 Model School.

The Class of 2017 is smaller than previous classes but of the 16 students, 3 have Composite ACT Scores of 30 or higher.  All plan to enroll in college classes.  One student has already completed 33 hours of dual-credit college classes.  The class average score on the 2016 TERRA NOVA 3 end of year assessment was 89%!  In athletics, the Soccer Team captured its 6th consecutive KCAA State Championship.

Our Beliefs

We believe the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible authoritative Word of God. (II Timothy 3:16)

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (I John 5:4-6)

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. (I Corinthians 15:3, I Peter 2:21-24, John 3:16, I Thessalonians 4:18; Revelation 21:20)

We believe that for salvation of lost and sinful humanity, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. (Romans 3:21-30; Galatians 4:4-7)

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. (Acts 1:8,Ephesians 5:18)

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and lost; that they are saved unto the resurrection of life; and that they are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. (John 5:24, 28, 29)
